The prostate is a walnut-shaped gland that is wrapped around the urethra (the tube for urine and semen to drain from the body) under the bladder and in front of the rectum. The prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system.
Prostatitis is a painful condition caused by a bacterial infection or injury to the prostate. If you are having long-term or sharp pelvic pain, you need to call Magic Valley Urology for an appointment.
There are four different types of prostatitis.
- Chronic Prostatitis (CP) or Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS) – The most common type of prostatitis. It is not an infection at all. it is inflammation of the prostate with irritation of the nerves leading to the area.
- Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis – This is a recurring type of prostatitis (over a long time) that is caused by a bacterial infection.
- Acute Bacterial Prostatitis – This is also an uncommon infection, although it comes on suddenly instead of recurring over a long period of time.
- Asymptomatic Inflammatory Prostatitis – This is also not an infection. It also has no symptoms. This type of inflammation is typically found when being assessed for other problems.
Call Magic Valley Urology for an appointment to diagnose and treat your suspected prostatitis.
